It’s actually on sale right now for $2,900 (as I write this) and there are also cheaper alternatives on the shop.
We love how the system just elevates in order to reveal two beds inside the sofa.
The top is just lifted up and theres even a ladder to climb up to the bed at the top of the sofa bed.
Sofa and bed made from 12 blocks
This first bed system is made up of 12 blocks. It’s basically build up by a wooden frame, and then you arrange the sofa-blocks as you wish.
Very stylish and clever.
These blocks can be put together in different ways, to create a sofa, a bed and everything in between.
You can also use each element separately, and quickly seat lots of people when you want to host a party.
The wooden legs add a light feel to the construction.
It’s designed by Scott Jones.
The possibilities are endless with these building blocks and you can have may different styles of sofas and beds in no time.
Affordable couch transforms into a queen-size bed
This one is a gem.
It’s a couch that can be pulled out to the exact size of a regular queen-size bed.
And it has a nice memory foam mattress as well.
It cost $1,495 online with shipping included.
A very good price for this type of folding sofa.
2 Sofas that folds into a queen-size bed (affordable)
This Renoir fold out sofa/queen size bed is one of the best gems, when it comes to comfort.
It holds a 5-inch thick mattress, made from resilient memory foam (medium firm), and when folded out you have complete comfort.
No bars, annoying coils or uneven spots.
Most multi-function sofas compromise a bit on the comfort, but this one you could sleep in every night if you want to.
The best part is that it’s cheap.
1. Bed Hanging From the Ceiling
It cost only $1,495 online with shipping included.
Often these cool transforming sofas are priced extremely high, because the manufacturer had a whole team of clever engineers working on the design and folding mechanisms for a long time, so it’s very nice to be able to present a more affordable solution.
This next one is a little more pricy but it also has a better mattress.
It has a faux eco leather finish and it is extremely comfortable.
This beauty is found on this fine online store.
Check out the store.
They ship all across U.S. and Canada and they have a TON of great space saving furniture designs.
Is is made carefully to make sure it is totally even and doesn’t have any uncomfortable bumps anywhere.
It’s around 1 to 2 inches shorter and wider than a standard queen size bed. So you have all the space you need with this design.
On top of that, it is made with beautiful leather finish so the sofa can definitely last long and be used everyday.
Quick and easy transformation
It only takes like 30 seconds to transform this sofa into a bed.
First, you pull out two supporting legs from the backrest, and then you can lower the backrest down to horizontal position.
Then you pull out the mattress from under the sofa (like a trundle bed), and finally, you fold out the mattress.
It’s made from strong and environmentally friendly materials.
The frame and main construction are made from steel, and the wooden parts are made from fine eucalyptus wood.
Sofa and Queen size dimensions
As mentioned above, the comfort is where this sofa-bed really shines.
It’s a full queen-size bed at night, and a compact couch during the day, meaning that you can fit it in everywhere.
Sofa size: 65.35 x 37.5” (166 x 95 cm)
Sleeping size: 58.66 x 78.75” (149 x 200 cm )
It is tested at 1500 lbs (680 kg), but it is not recommended to more than 500 lbs (227 kg) or under for long-term use, so I think most of us are fine here.
Chair / Chaise-lounge can fold into a bed
This next piece of furniture is a Japanese design.
It’s a chair, a chaise lounge, and a guest bed.
It’s a great space saver, and as a chaise-lounge, it’s pretty stylish too.
We haven’t been able to find the designer of this piece of furniture or any non-Japanese shops who carry this piece.
Minimalistic folding sofa/mattress from Japan
The next one is also a Japanese design called “MT3 Reclining Sofa”.
It’s also a sofa-like shape that will fold out to become a bed and a chaise lounge.
It a slimmer design, and works very well in all three variations.
It looks super comfortable and is perfect for reading and sleeping.
Unfortunately, it’s only available in Japan, as far as we can tell, but you’ll find a similar design here at only $200!
It looks comfortable, and it will look great in a modern apartment.
Convertible sofa bed
This next sofa will fold down and become a guest bed.
It’s a basic design that we have seen before, but very functional and within seconds the sofa will turn into a comfortable bed.
$192 including free shipping here.
It’s very cheap and it looks robust.
A fine sofa if you need an extra sleeping spot once in a while.
Sleep under your desk
This next design is made by the Greek architect and designer Athanasia Leivaditou. The idea is so simple, and it’s something you can easily build yourself.
The feature with the sliding desk and the folding side is a fun detail.
The only disadvantage of this design is, that you get to sleep very close to the floor, so make sure you clean often.
Cheap folding beds
If you just need a cheap solution for having guests sleeping over, these simple fold-away beds are a good choice.
They won’t double function as chairs, sofas etc.
but they are easy to fold out and quite comfortable.
You can get them here from $89 incl.
They are a good upgrade from a mattress on the floor.
By the way: we have gathered all the best space-saving bargains in this post.
DIY platform bed
This one is also a very simple design.
Easy to build, and very practical in a small apartment or anywhere you need to make good use of every sq.ft you’ve got.
It holds lots of storage space and can be used as a sitting space during the day.
It doesn’t make the room smaller, and every inch is utilized to the max.
Do Sofa Beds Come With Mattresses?
Yes, these do.
The mattress is built into the design of the sofa bed.
When you flip the sofa over to reveal the bed you use the same mattress that you will use for sitting on the sofa.
For the bunk bed sofas, there is a hidden mattress below the sofa seat that is revealed when you fold up the bunk bed.
How Do You Make A Sofa Bed More Comfortable?
If you feel like your Sofa bed is uncomfortable there are several things you can do to make it more comfortable.
2. The Living Cube
The first thing you should consider is to put in an extra foam mattress on top of the sofa seat.
Some sofa beds will have a hard and deform “mattress” which is the seat from the sofa. In this case, you can put a firm foam mattress on top of the sofa seat in order to make it more comfortable.
Can You Sleep In A Sofa Bed Every day?
This depends on a couple of factors:
- How old you are (do you have back problems?)
- How comfortable the mattress is
- Where the sofa bed is placed
If you are a young person and you don’t mind sleeping on the floor and on the soft mattress you will probably be just fine.
But if you have any back problems you need to make sure the foam is not deformed and that it isn’t too soft.
You also want to pay attention to where the sofa bed is placed.
Most people prefer to sleep in the dark room and without having people walking by.
So if this sofa bed is placed in the living room where people will pass by regularly and there is too much light you need to make sure this will work for you.
